Five bad everyday habits that are ruining your skin - Liza Pons

Let's talk about habits, those practices that, when carried out for so long, even begin to give us an identity or a title with our colleagues, family, and close friends.

Today's article begins with an anecdote that the author herself experienced. Two weeks ago, I made my usual visit to my dermatologist because I had a small outbreak of acne on my chin. The first thing I thought was that it was a hormonal issue, nothing transcendental or out of this world, but definitely something I wanted to get rid of as soon as possible.

Let's face it, quarantine has definitely become, especially for those of us who work from home, the perfect excuse to be more indulgent with ourselves regarding the schedules we shamelessly manage, the exercise routines we avoid, and the list could go on.

My dermatologist's first question was, Have you been drinking?

To which I responded truthfully.

-Yes, frankly, a little more than usual.

His answer left me perplexed.

-That's the reason for the breakout on your chin.

So, with the intention, my dear readers, of saving you the consultation, I decided to undertake the task of investigating the five bad daily habits that are most harmful to the skin.

To build a habit, you need to repeat the action for a period of 21 days. Knowing this allows us to be more aware of how often we want to perform certain activities that we may not even realize are harmful to us but enjoy.

First , not drinking enough water. It is estimated that our body is made up of 72% water. It is an essential component for our bones, muscles, and brain, and of course, essential for the metabolic process.

What's ideal? For us women, drinking two liters of plain water daily.

Second , not removing makeup is a serious mistake, especially if you are a woman who wears makeup daily. Your skin has pores, and by not removing your makeup, in addition to street pollution, they begin to clog your pores. Also, the lack of an established routine that includes the right creams means that the lack of skin moisture leads to premature aging lines appearing.

What's ideal? Look for alternatives that fit your routine and allow you to go to bed with clean skin. A micellar water can be a good option.

Third , not getting enough sleep. The adult body needs about 7 to 9 hours of rest to complete the regenerative processes that take place during sleeping hours.

What's ideal? Regardless of your schedule, try to get as little sleep as possible every day, and if possible, even a little more.

Fourth, smoking commercial cigarettes is hardly ever made of 100% tobacco; instead, they contain thousands of highly toxic components, including arsenic, ammonia, and tar.

What's the ideal? Quit smoking as soon as possible. Your skin, lungs, and quality of life will thank you for it.

Fifth and last, drinking alcohol is something you probably expected from the anecdote, but it's what inspired me to write this article, and it's bad because it does the opposite of water: it dehydrates you, and the key to healthy skin is hydration.

What's ideal? Take it in moderation and occasionally to avoid damaging your skin.
